When I teach SolidWorks Update classes, I often say, “Sometimes, it’s the little things that make the most impact.” Today’s blog highlights one of those “little things” in SolidWorks 2014.
In an assembly, you can now quickly change the configuration of a component through the pop-up toolbar that appears when you select a model. This works in the FeatureManager as well as the graphics area.
Simply click on a component in the FeatureManager and viola! the pop-up toolbar lists the current configuration used by that component instance. Click on the configuration name and a drop down list appears, allowing you to change the configuration of that instance.
You can also do this in the graphics area. Select the component, find the dropdown, and choose another configuration for that component.
If you want to change the configuration of an the entire subassembly as opposed to a part in the subassembly, first right-click an item in the subassembly and choose “Select subassembly”:
Next, hover over the selected subassembly and choose your configuration from the list:
Of course, if you don’t have configurations of a part or subassembly, no configuration name will appear in the pop-up as there isn’t a choice to be made.
There you have it! A “little thing” that can really make your day. Click here for more on SolidWorks 2014.
